He just made his inquiry softly, asked the entire guest about their movements and searched their luggage with their permission.

Johnson, Carter, and Abbott were suspicious of King even before the revolver was found in his room because of the way he was talking with the detective and the way to intercept to search on his luggage and his car. That all his gestures made all the people think that he was the real murderer. Further his appearance also went with the description of the murderer which was given by the wounded one in that robbery.

Detective- Sergeant Manning never believed that King was the murderer because after knowing about the King movement and his car age. He explained that if King has done the crime and got away in his car, that was five years old, he could never reach the hotel at that time. If he had gone down the Great North Road, he must have arrested by the Police.

Manning said these words when Mr. King told him the detail of his traveling and told him that he gave a lift to Charlton at Darlington. When Manning knew that fact he had almost solved that case in his mind and finally reached to the murderer by closely look at Charlton’s upper lips when he found false hairs of moustache.

Manning was certain of Charlton guilt after peering closely into his face because he found some false hairs and gum spirit on his upper lips those were the remains of dark moustache which he wore during the robbery at Newcastle.

Charlton gave away the place where the case was deposited because he had known that there was only one way to save his neck was to get Mr. King to prove the culprit. When he saw that the police had reached hotel before his expectation and found the gun from King’s room which was hidden by him. He also knew that after recovering the gun the police would try to find out the bag which was full of money that was put in the cupboard behind the reception desk and would be known that who was carrying that bag so he quickly and cleverly submitted the bag saying that he did on the instructions of King.

Detective Manning was much interested in the make and age of Mr. King’s car because that was an essential part of his interrogation. It could help him to find out the real murderer and by knowing all of the details about his car, he calculated the actual time frame at which he reached the hotel and determined that he was a real murderer or not.
Q 10) Why the detective Manning did start suspecting Charlton and why did he suspect him?
At the time of his interrogation with Mr. King, he knew about that Mr. King gave Charlton a convenient place from exactly some distance away from where he found the abandoned, of course, stolen sports car so he started to suspect Norman Charlton.
Q 11) How did Charlton get rid of the robbed bag of money and his revolver after he entered the hotel?
When Charlton entered in the hotel with Mr. King so he immediately got rid of the robbed bag by hiding it behind the reception desk unnoticed and when he went to Mr. King’s room to keep his luggage so he concealed the revolver under his mattress. He thought that whenever he got the appropriate time so he would deposit them to somewhere safe place.

The Hostile Witness which can be called as an unfavorable witness who appears unwillingly, to tell the truth. In that story, Norman Charlton, the hotel's man of all work, who was the actual culprit of Newcastle’s incident, had become the hostile witness in order to save his neck because he had got frightened to see the police at the hotel and had become aware that the police would definitely search the hotel’s guest room so he could find easily the revolver and the bag so he started the forged acting to move all suspicion to Mr. King because of his appearance similarity of the murderer and his nervous behavior when the police asked him some questions and interfered his personal affairs. Charlton tried to become the witness who was showing opposition of Mr. King.
Q 13) Why the police did come to the White Hart hotel?
The police that was in the search of the murderer who killed one person in robbing the bag, full of weekly wages by firing on two men at New castle. The police visited all of the hotels in the north of England to conduct the enquiry and wanted to know all about the guests who were staying there because the wounded gentleman looked remarkably to the shooter and gave complete description about his appearance that the murderer was respectable looking so according to the police it could be the best chance to escape for the murderer to sit at any respectable place with respectable fellows.
Q 14) Why had Mr. King changed his views about the performance of British Police?
Mr. King was not satisfied with the British police’s performance because of some past events in which the most satisfactory result could not be seen and he expressed his views when the detective Manning entered in the hotel with his constable and when the police started its interrogation so its behavior seemed to him very high handed but when the positive and effective result had been seen and the middle of the New Castle’s incident had been solved appropriately so he changed his opinions about the police and appreciated them.
Q15) Why did Charlton try to frame the King?
Norman Charlton who did the robbery and murder at Newcastle had concealed the stolen money behind the reception desk and the gun which was employed in the murder had been concealed under the mattress of Mr. King’s room. He had decided that whenever he got the suitable time he would place all of them in the convenient place but unfortunately the British Police had come before and he had an idea that the rooms would be searched and gun could be easily found so he started to give the impression of King’s rudeness that he had many similarities with the murderer in appearance and when the gun had been found form King’s room so he, in order to save his neck, told about the stolen money bag to Detective Manning and gave the wrong statement that the bed belonged to Mr. King.
